The Festive Side of Florida: 5 Activities to Try

Are you new to Florida? While we may not see snow, we treat the holidays with the same festivity you’ll find just about anywhere—with a few touches of our own, too!

Below, we’re sharing five fun activities to try to get yourself and your family in the holiday spirit.

A holiday block party

Many close-knit communities will take to the streets during the holidays—for block parties, that is! Instead of the weather outside being “frightful,” it’s often a cool, comfortable temperature perfect for outdoor fun and games, lots of food, and getting to know your neighbors. This is, of course, a big step away from wintertime in colder climates, where families often stay cooped up inside to try and stay warm. Take advantage of your new surroundings and enjoy!

Pool day on a cool day

On milder days, you and your family can enjoy your heated pool with ease—just jump right in, and have plenty of warm, comfy towels waiting for you on deck! You can listen to holiday tunes as you swim around and enjoy the season—which is not something you can do just anywhere.

Outdoor family fun

Florida is no stranger to natural beauty—in fact, it’s everywhere you look. After holiday dinners or family get-togethers, you and your family can head outdoors and enjoy a walk, hike or pick-up game of touch football in some of the most beautiful surroundings around. You might consider checking out one of the nearby parks, like pet-friendly Smyrna Dunes Park, or sticking closer to home and enjoying the green spaces that abound in your own Platinum community.

DIY holiday light tour

No car or ticket is required for your very own holiday light tour—go by foot, and take in the beautiful twinkling light displays that spread throughout every Florida neighborhood at this time of year. There will be lots of “oohs” and “ahs” as you make your way past intricately-designed displays—bundle up if it’s cold out, pack a few thermoses of hot cocoa, and enjoy it firsthand.

Holiday dinner al fresco

A great Florida tradition is having dinner outside, by the pool or by your outdoor kitchen setup. It’s an easy dining environment that requires no special decoration—after all, the best decoration of all is the backdrop of your own backyard!

Which of these activities do you plan to try out this holiday season? With the beautiful backdrop of your neighborhood and Platinum home, you can’t go wrong.
