Mardi Gras is right around the corner—and with it comes food, fun, and the chance to enjoy a carefree celebration with friends and family.
Here in New Smyrna Beach, our take on Mardi Gras lives up to New Orleans tradition… all while being amplified by a few local touches you’re sure to love.
To prepare for the fun ahead, just read on.
Start off with the VooDoo 5k Beach Run
A 5k to kick off Mardi Gras fun? New Smyrna Beach says, “why not?” With a theme pulled straight from New Orleans culture, the VooDoo 5k Beach Run promises to be a fun, rewarding way to start your weekend. It benefits a great cause, Southern Stone Charities, and gives participants of every speed and skill level to come out and take part—plus, you’re invited to wear your Mardi Gras regalia and compete for best costume!
The race itself starts 9 am, February 10th at the Flagler Avenue Beach Approach (with race-day registration happening an hour before). The best part? Once you’ve ran, walked or jogged your heart out—against those beautiful shoreline views, no less—you don’t need to travel far to enjoy the next item on the Mardi Gras itinerary. And you’ll want to bring a hearty appetite with you!
Indulge in a New Orleans classic
Kicking off at noon is the New Smyrna Beach Gumbo Festival. Whether you’re competing to cook up the best gumbo in town (or just want to enjoy the flavorful fun), this is a family-friendly must-do this Mardi Gras weekend.
Celebrate Mardi Gras with friends and family
Of course, we can’t forget about the main event—Mardi Gras itself! Located on Flagler Avenue, the famous parade is the culmination of a fun-filled celebration. The parade begins at Columbus, heads south on Flagler and wraps up on Pine Street, so be sure to catch a spot and watch it with the family! All along the Avenue, there will be music and delicious food specials awaiting at nearby restaurants—so you can stick around for the fun and enjoy a rich, tasty meal, too, the way Mardi Gras was meant to be celebrated.
Have Mardi Gras plans? You do now! “Fat Tuesday” fun begins early here in New Smyrna Beach, with gumbo galore on Saturday and a traditional, beads-filled celebration culminating on the big day. We hope to see you there!
